It is 1896 at Girton College, Cambridge, and Principal Welsh is determined to change the history of education.
Girton is the first college in Britain to admit women. They study ferociously and match their male peers grade for grade.
The men graduate, however the women leave unqualified and unmarriageable, with nothing but the stigma of being a ‘bluestocking’- an unnatural, educated woman. Encouraged by their Principal, Mrs Welsh, the women of Girton fight for the right to graduate, whatever the cost.
Set against the backdrop of women’s suffrage, this comic drama is a moving and eye-opening story of women’s fight for education and self-determination.
