David Shenton Book Launch

David Shenton has been creating LGBT+ cartoons and comics since the 1970s when his work started appearing in Gay News, Him and Capital Gay. Along with cartoonists such as Alison Bechdel and Kate Charlesworth, he has been at the forefront of exploring LGBT+ life and issues through cartoon and comic art.

NAC is delighted to host the Launch of his latest book: Forty Lies ; A Work of Ipsedixitism. It is a vaguely chronological patchwork of forty(ish) personal stories, following the trials of Coming Out, the Age of Consent, family rejection, dodgy boyfriends, police swoops, the enemy without, queer bashers, the stern presence of HIV/AIDS, the loathsome Section 28, the friends, the outrage and outrageous, the fun, the sex, the scene, Love, Equal Marriage and bereavement. It’s no wonder that David is a TSL favourite.

“Magnificent! It’s like going back in time and being born gay, without all the mess. The best laugh I’ve had in ages” Steve Bell.

“ A rollicking romp through queer culture” Peter Tatchell.

Join us at 5pm for tea and cakes followed by the launch itself at 5.30pm which will include a Q and A led by Molly Naylor.

The event will finish at 6.30pm and there will be plenty of opportunity to chat with David and buy his book.
Forty Lies is published by Knockabout Comics: www.knockaboutcomics.com and Distributed by Turnaround.
