David Toop (Ocean of Sound Author) Workshop + Talk

David Toop’s workshop will be a practical exercise in writing, during which he will discuss the issues specific to music writing, including how to bring music to life through words, the difficulties of describing sound without resorting to cliche, the perils and fascinations of interviewing, the pleasures of research and making connections, how to draw in the reader, how to balance subjective opinions with reasoned argument and how to write with compassion and conviction.
After a short break David will then to proceed to talk about his 50+ year career as a writer, publishing nine books including the acclaimed Ocean of Sound, also contributing to newspapers, magazines such as The Face, The Wire, New York Review and Bookforum, self-published fanzines and academic texts.
