Ellen Jones: Outrage

“A book for anyone who thinks marriage equality was the end of the fight for our rights… spoiler alert – it wasn’t.”
– Charlie Craggs, author of To My Trans Sisters
Join The Book Hive on Wednesday the 22nd of July to celebrate and amplify the incredible work of campaigner Ellen Jones who will be discussing her book Outrage: How To Fight For LGBTQ+ Lives.
Complete equality for LGBTQ+ people should be our benchmark. But despite massively increased visibility in mainstream life and culture, the queer community is facing unacceptable levels of prejudice and danger – from the rise in homophobic and transphobic violence to the rollback of hard-fought-for rights across the globe.
In this groundbreaking, compelling and immensely readable book, writer, and activist Ellen Jones exposes the discrimination queer people continue to face in all areas of life. In searing prose, punctuated by moving personal accounts, Jones sets out not only the issues but also practical actions that any of us can take to create a more equal society, and highlights the trailblazers whose amazing work is already changing the world.
Ellen will be in conversation with Ruth Fisher, bookseller at The Book Hive. There will be readings, time for audience questions, and a chance to get your book signed.
Ellen Jones is one of the UK’s most trusted voices on inclusion. She was named Stonewall’s Young Campaigner of the Year, won the inaugural MTV EMA Generation Change Award, and in 2025 was shortlisted for Campaigner of the Year at the DIVA Awards, named on the Independent’s Top 50 LGBTQ+ People and was included on the Diversity Power List. Her debut book Outrage: How to Fight For LGBTQ+ Lives (Bluebird, Pan Macmillan, 2025) was named a Foyles Top 10 Book and became a bestseller on Bookshop.org.
