Word for Word: Poetry with James Mc Dermott
James McDermott is a poet, playwright and scriptwriter whose work has been staged across the UK, including at Norwich Theatre, the National Theatre and Pleasance Theatre, and broadcast on the BBC. Exploring themes of class, queer identity, grief and humour, his poetry collections Father Myself and Wild Life (Nine Arches Press), and Erased (Polari Press), have been widely featured in magazines and journals.
Currently a lecturer in Creative Writing at UEA, James leads this inclusive, interactive poetry workshop at the Old Piano Shop Gallery, open to all abilities. Through group discussion and guided writing exercises, participants will develop tools and techniques to generate, shape and refine their own poems.
The workshop will be followed by a live poetry performance in The Bicycle Shop basement, featuring readings from James McDermott alongside selected workshop participants.
