Baluji Shrivastav OBE and Inner Vision Quartet

On Wednesday 7th May 2025, Norwich Arts Centre will host a special performance from the acclaimed multi-instrumentalist Baluji Shrivastav OBE and the Inner Vision Quartet, a unique ensemble of four talented blind musicians.

The two-part show will open with a performance of classical Indian music, before the quartet and special guests take to the stage for captivating cross-cultural, multi-genre musical exploration. Doors will open at 7pm for the performance to begin at 8pm. Seated and standing tickets are available, starting from £14.

Shrivastav’s story is one of remarkable resilience and unwavering passion for music. Born blind in Uttar Pradesh, India, Baluji found solace and expression through sound. Today he is recognised as one of India’s greatest instrumentalists and has collaborated with artists like Coldplay, Massive Attack and Stevie Wonder.

The world-leading composer and sitar virtuoso has performed many times at Norwich Arts Centre, with sets ranging from pure Indian classical to cross-cultural collaborations with various talented ensembles. A keen yoga and meditation practitioner, Shrivastav has also delivered a Yoga of Sound (Nada Yoga) session at the arts centre, teaching the ancient Indian practice and the importance of preparing for the power of music.

Shrivastav will open the upcoming show with a captivating display of Indian classic music on Sitar, with Yusuf Ali Khan on Tabla. The musicians will be accompanied by a lively selection of traditional South Indian percussion instruments, with Norwich-based percussionist, Hari Sharma playing Kanjira.

The second half of the concert will see Shrivastav perform with the Inner Vision Quartet – four talented musicians from the world’s only professional ensemble of blind musicians, the Inner Vision Orchestra.

Supporting Shrivastav on Sitar will be Uttara Joshi (vocals), Takashi Kikuchi (viola) and Norwich-based saxophonist, Rishi Gulati. Guest artist, Yusuf Ali Khan, will join the ensemble on Tabla for a celebration of sound that transcends geography and genre.

The not-to-be-missed performance will traverse classical Western, jazz and blues, Indian classical, Middle Eastern, and world music compositions. As a proud showcase of what blind and partially sighted musicians can do, the concert promises a vibrant and unforgettable evening.

After the performance, blind and partially sighted audience members will be welcomed to join the musicians on stage for a touch tour of the instruments.
